Anyone who knows me well knows my love for a fairytale. They also know my love for the misunderstood villain. Ursula the Sea Urchin- perhaps she wasn't comfortable in her own skin or with that deviously, raspy voice. The Wicked Witch of the West?!?Duh, a house was dropped on her sister AND the pretty ruby red slippers slipped from her green-handed grasp. I believe the writers of Sex and the City expressed it best thru the character Miranda Hobbes completely understanding why the old woman in "Hansel and Gretel" wanted to put those children in her oven- they were attempting to eat her house for goodness sake.
Over the weekend, I saw the film "Beastly" starring Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris and Mary Kate Olsen. In short, "Beastly" is a remake of "Beauty and the Beast." I did not expect much from the movie, however "Beauty and the Beast" is one of my favorite fairytales and I am a huge fan of the Olsen sisters.
What stood out most about the flick was just how fierce Mary-Kate Olsen was as the witch Kendra. It is rare that a villain ever gets to look as great as Mary Kate did.
The essentials to this look: a teasing comb, a great black eyeliner (my faves are MAC kohl power in Feline and Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero), a pale, nude lipstick ( MAC Honeylove, Peachstock, and Creme de Nude are amazing!) a bent eyeliner brush and gel eyeliner for drawing a hex of sorts on your face (I love both Smashbox and Sonia Kashuks bent eyeliner brushes and nothing beats MAC fluidline in Blacktrack) the essential black nailpolish (Chanel Black Satin or China Glaze Liquid Leather) and we can not forget Kendra's structured black tops, stiletto heels and black bobbed wig.
Kendra wore approximately 3 makeup looks in the film- the bad witch, the good witch, and a Halloween look as shown below:
I think this look needs a crimping iron (thats right, I went there) and a cranberry colored eyeshadow (MAC Cranberry) and perhaps a burnt red, orange lipstick such as MAC Fresh Moroccan.

Black Swan
If you have yet to see "Black Swan" starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, you really should. I saw the movie in December and had anticipated seeing it since August. I viewed the movie with the question in mind of "how far will I go for perfection?" "what are my goals?" and "who am I really competing with?" I also viewed the film as the lifelong competition we each have with ourselves- to be the best, to improve, to be a shining star. It clearly has a HUGE effect on me.
In addition to believable acting, incredible dancing, the music of Swan Lake, amazing makeup artistry, and costumes by Rodarte, it is so visually stunning that you are able to imagine watching the ballet as though you are at the Met or the Kennedy Center instead of a not so pleasant movie theatre with a sticky floor.
Enough gushing about such a fantastic film, I was blown away by the simplistic yet dramatic beauty of the makeup on Mila Kunis' character "Lily" and wanted to recreate the look here!

Katy Perry
It seems that most of my closest friends are anti Katy Perry and I can't figure out why. Shes adorable. She is like the kid sister to Dita Von Teese. She has the catchiest songs and fun, kitschy costumes. I will bet money on the fact that everyone has gotten "Teenage Dream" stuck in their head at least once.
I was absolutely obsessed with Katy's makeup from the VH1 Divas special and chose to recreate the look. Check it out here!

Golden Globes 2011
The 2011 Golden Globes can best be described as awkward, what with Christian Bales run on acceptance speech and Ricky Gervais' jabs at celebs while they are down. Luckily, the stars outshined the funky vibe.
My faves for best dressed:Whether you are Team Angie or Team Jen, this Atelier Versace outshone the Emerald City.

Big Mouth!!
Confession, I am so OVER winter weather!! I want warm sunshine on my arms, sundresses that make getting dolled up easy peasey, gorgeous sandals to show off amazingly bright pedicures and minimal makeup that makes a huge statement.
The first day of Spring is March 20th, until then I will trudge through the Winter armed with an arsenal of BRIGHT lip colors in shades of red, coral, fuschia, orange and magenta.
Perhaps it is strange that my Muse's for a bright lip were all at one point engaged or married to Marilyn Manson. Clearly, Marilyn has a beautiful type. They rock a bright lip like no other.
Evan Rachel Wood. Ever since she was tied into True Blood, I have wanted to steal Queen Sophie Annes lipstick..and her wardrobe.
Dita Von Teese. Dita is a family icon of sorts. My lil sis mimics her hair styles and style, while I attempt to control my Makeup Artist tendencies to wear everything in the kit and scale it back. Dita is all about black liquid liner, blusher and most importantly her red lipstick. Minimal, but HUGE impact.
Rose McGowan. Beautiful Rose! I have been envious of her alabaster skin and ability to wear bright lip color with ease since she starred in the movie "Jawbreaker." She easily wears a magenta lip color as though it was a classic, everyday nude.
The best way to rock a bright lip??Minimal makeup elsewhere!!Black liquid liner winged out, gobs of black mascara, a touch of sheer blush, and of course your lipcolor of choice with a coordinating lip pencil.
My favorite bright lipcolors? MAC cosmetics Lickable(gorgeous magenta), Revlon colorburst in Coral, MAC cosmetics Viva Glam Gaga (a bright in your
face pink) and Nars Velvet Matte lipcolor in Cruella (a fierce red.)
Other Muse's for inspiration: Gwen Steffani, Rihanna, Katy Perry,Christina Aguilera

Je t'aime!!!
Je t'aime is a word I picked up long ago during a shopping trip in Georgetown with my very dear friend Jen. We walked past Urban Outfitters on our trek out of the shopping mecca and noticed a shirt in the window that was black and simply said "Je t'aime." Jen informed me that "je t'aime" means "love" in French. On that day, I fell in love with that word and have used it ever since.
Despite not sounding so in love or looking twitterpated due to the longest lasting stuffed nose and sore throat, my newest video shows the items that made me squeal "Je' taime" in the month of December...
Perhaps one day I will be brave enough to say it in a video:)

Say what?!?!?A video?!?!
Ok, so I am late on the You Tube bandwagon..it took A LOT of courage for me to make a video (I hate my voice and make a ton of funny faces, do you blame me for being nervous?) I am excited to show off my work (can I just say that editing is A TON of work??!?!) Please excuse some of my shaky edges as I find my way through Imovie and You Tube. Enjoy and let me know of questions!!
